The Story

Since 2013 “Österreich radelt” aims to promote the use of bicycles as a sustainable form of transportation. It encourages participants to collect cycling-kilometers on their bikes and win prizes. This not only has a positiv impact on the participants health but also on the climate as people choose their bikes instead of cars on a daily basis. The bike-kilometers are collected in the user profiles, accessible on the website or on the app "Österreich radelt". The profile shows an overall view and can track the routes of the participants. Moreover participants can bike in teams, collect kilometers together and compare themselves with other teams.

Different promotions taking place during the year encourage people to use their bikes as they can win different prizes. One of the most popular promotions is "Österreich radelt zur Arbeit", which takes place in June. Employees of companies are called to use their bicycles at least 10 days in one month to win attractive prices for their company. Similar actions are promoted for communities, associations, universities, schools and individual bikers via social media, newsletter and on the website. The statistics on the website show the collected kilometers and the reduction of CO2 emissions throughout Austria in accordance with   the motto: Every kilometer counts!

Success Factor | Hero Moment

2020 was a very successful year with 19.000 participants. Together they collected 15 million kilometers and were able to save 2.667.503 kilogram of CO2.
