The Story
Vienna is home to many innovative energy projects actively contributing to the city’s aim to become climate neutral by 2040. The most outstanding energy efficient new buildings, smart renovations, innovative energy supply systems, greening measures as well as educational and mobility solutions are being presented in an easy-to-use mobile app by the Municipal Energy Planning Department.
The ‘Energy!ahead’ app not only provides the user with knowledgeable facts and figures on more than 200 showcases, but also interlinks them in thematic walking tours – that way, the Viennese and visitors alike can easily discover exciting new energy-related aspects of the city on their own.
By communicating in an entertaining, low-threshold way in both English and German, the app raises the awareness for today’s energy challenges and already available innovative solutions worth being replicated around the world.

The combination of profound information, easy-to-understand language and additional facts presented with a little wink in the ‘Did you know…” segment appeals to a wide public. The ‘Energy!ahead’ app is therefore suited to both a specialist audience of energy experts or international delegations and interested laypersons.
