The Story

"CommuniTree" is a program with great scalability that utilizes fallow areas of small farms and reforests them with forestry, agroforestry and forest grazing systems and native tree species.
Since 2010, the program has worked hand-in-hand with 3400 smallholder families to raise awareness and provide training in forest management.
APRODEIN and Taking Root are working with a digital platform of the "CommuniTree- Program", which monitors the reforestation areas of the smallholders involved.

Forest management (wood and biomass) make strategies to develop a bio-based industry and new markets are required. For this purpose, a production center will be established to produce various products such as charcoal, vegetable charcoal, lumber, and handicrafts, which in turn will create jobs and income for families.

Success Factor | Hero Moment

To date (2023), the reforested area spans around 11,300 ha and more than 19 million trees have been planted and grown. Around 3,3 mio t of CO2 have been stored. More than 3400 smallholder farming families have benefitted from that project, and up until 2022 around $ 9.5 mio were transferred to the families. Since 2010 the project is VIVO Plan certified.
