The Story

Ecopost drives a circular economy via collecting and recycling plastic waste through a replicable and scalable model, that creates jobs and diverts plastic waste from open burning, dumping in waterways, sewers and landfilling by creating eco-friendly alternatives material to timber for applications like fencing, signage & building material. Ecopost’s business model integrates marginalized youth and women, informal waste picking community, formalizes them and incorporates training and capacity building across the value chain. Ecopost provides the waste collectors with entrepreneurial start-up kits such as shredders, agglomerator, balers, personal protective equipment, weighing scales etc. This enables the waste collectors to add value to the waste collected and increase their income. Ecopost purchases and converts the waste into highly demanded environmentally friendly products like fencing, signage, building materials and post-consumer pellets/resins.

Ecopost has created 102 direct jobs and over 10,000 income opportunities to the waste picking communities. The company has recycled 13 million kg of plastic waste and converted it into suitable alternative products to timber. Every tonne plastic lumber produced, reduces 1.1 tonnes in timber harvest, and 4 tonnes of trees saves 1 acre forest. Ecopost has so far saved 4,300 acres of forest.
