The Story

The project „Sustainability Package for Households” assists approximately 5,000 households in eight municipalities in Ethiopia over the duration of five years. It is the first project in the world that focuses on the entire household and in which several measures are implemented simultaneously.

The individual household situation shall be improved by efficient cooking, solar-powered light sources, water treatment as well as agricultural and forestry education. In detail, the total package for a household contains two efficient cooking stoves, vegetable seeds including vegetable growing training, tree seedlings, a solar powered light source and „WADI”, a drinking water treatment device that is also powered by the sun.

Thanks to the project, not only the quality of life of the rural population will be sustainably improved, but more than 24,000 tons of CO2 will also be saved. A perfect example of how climate protection becomes the basis for a future worth living!

Success Factor | Hero Moment

The main success factor here is the holistic project approach dedicated to an entire problem chain, such as clean energy, sustainable food and water for households. This was is one of the key arguments for donors to fund the project. In addition, the accompanying knowledge transfer will ensure the project’s success also over the longer term.
